Fudy wishes you a peaceful Dragon Boat Festival

The fifth day of the fifth lunar month, which falls on June 23rd this year according to Gregorian calendar, is an important festival in Chinese society – the Dragon Boat Festival.

There are many versions of stories about the origin of the Dragon Boat Festival. During the festival, Chinese community holds dragon boat races, worships ancestors, and makes sticky rice dumplings. Each household’s sticky rice dumpling has a different taste, and it’s seen a great pleasure to exchange and share them with friends and family during the festival.

In solar terms, after the Dragon Boat Festival comes the official arrival of summer. The change in temperature throughout the day are no longer as significant as during the rainy season, and the weather remains hot all day.

The Dragon Boat Festival also has a significant meaning. People take action to ward off diseases on this day, such as hanging wormwood in front of their doors, drinking realgar wine, and washing their bodies with water exposed to sunlight at noon on the festival day.

Chinese community also believe giving gifts to people that are important to them during the Dragon Boat Festival can scare away the five pestilence gods and bring health and good luck.
