With the ambitious goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, every industry is actively seeking ways to reduce their carbon footprint. Consequently, nearly every business has carbon reduction objectives to fulfill. Fudy aims to become a solid partner in our customers’ sustainable supply chains and, in line with the growing emphasis on carbon reduction, we proactively proposed a solution. We initiated a key customer paper and material replacement project at the end of 2022 and successfully assisted crucial customers in completing the transition from foreign-imported materials to locally sourced materials in 2023, aligning with their sustainable supply chain management goals and contributing to overall carbon reduction efforts.

To achieve the goal of net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, reducing carbon emissions is crucial starting now

Background: High Carbon Emissions from Foreign Material Imports

Fudy’s customers primarily manufacture 3C products and require high standards in terms of product design and protection while also considering costs. In the past, the paper specified by customers came from Mainland China and New Zealand. It went through a series of tests before mass production, and this choice remained in use until recently. However, this approach relied on imported materials, inevitably leading to significant carbon emissions during transportation.

High Maritime Carbon Emissions

Proactive Proposal by Fudy: Material Replacement for Carbon Reduction

When Fudy noticed the urgent need for carbon reduction from our customers, we understood that this responsibility extended beyond our clients to us. We began actively searching for solutions to help our customers achieve their carbon reduction goals. After extensive research and exploration, we found a material in Taiwan that we believed could perfectly meet our customer’s needs. However, this material came at a slightly higher cost, making it less competitive for the customer. To persuade our customer to switch to this locally produced material, we needed to undergo various environmental tests, including drop tests, vibration tests, temperature variation tests, and others. This would potentially add extra testing costs and make the customer hesitant.

Local sourcing reduces carbon emissions

Nevertheless, Fudy firmly believed that reducing carbon emissions would have a positive impact on our customer’s carbon reduction goals, and we were certain it was the right path. Therefore, we actively overcame various obstacles, proposed the material replacement to the customer, and were willing to share part of the replacement costs to ensure the customer achieved their carbon reduction goals.
