This project aims to redefine the transition period for pets returning home from shelters. The new "Multi-functional Adoption Box" helps newly adopted pet owners to safely and efficiently take their pets home. During the 3-to-6-week adjustment period, the adoption box provides a dedicated and secure space for pets to settle in.
In the past, the "adoption box" provided to adopters had not been updated for a long time. It became unsuitable for use due to changes in the needs of adopters and pet owners. This project aims to redefine the "adoption box" as a transport carrier for adopted animals and a "home" that helps animals gradually adapt to their new lives.
The main challenges of the former box are as follows:
● A large opening that made it challenging to put animals inside.
● Ventilation holes on the sides that cats and dogs easily chew.
● A weak bottom that could not support the weight of cats and dogs.
● The paper box was difficult to reuse after returning home.
○ ntuitive assembly: A one-piece design with no extra accessories makes it easy for adoption agency staff to assemble.
○ Safe transport: The adoption box can adjust the opening according to the animal's size and only has a single direction, making it easy to put cats and dogs inside and ensuring safety during the transition from the cage to the adoption box.
○ Strong locking mechanism: The adoption box has a sturdy locking bar that keeps it from easily opening during transport.
○ Ergonomic design: The handle position and tilt angle of the box make it easy for users to carry pet home.
○ Quick conversion into pet bed: The adoption box can be quickly converted into two types of pet beds using pre-cut serrated lines, including a more private pet safety home and an open pet bed.
○ Extended use: Through functional conversion and material selection, the "adoption box" not only has transportation value but also increases product lifespan and is environmentally friendly.
○ Human-pet interaction: The adoption box can retain the smell of the animals, becoming a comforting hiding place for cats and dogs when they return home.
This product changes how adopters carry animals home through structural design, from single-handed "carrying" to double-handed "embracing," which makes bringing animals home safer and more precious as part of the family. Due to this change in action, the value of animal life is highlighted, and the relationship between adopters and animals begins to deepen when they start their journey home.
At home, the transport carrier can transform into a comfortable sleeping space or provide security in a private house, helping animals adapt to their new lives.
This adoption box brings three levels of value to adoption agencies, adopters, and animals: essential, emotional, and social. The essential value includes reducing the safety risk of animals returning home and improving the usability for adopters. The emotional value includes enhancing the practicality for pet owners and providing a comforting space for animals through its texture and design. Finally, the long-term design concept aims to bring social value to environmental sustainability.
