Challenges

In order to make environmentally friendly packaging successful, we not only need determination, but also strong execution! In this case, the keywords for the design and production are "environmental protection." Therefore from the selection of raw materials, structural design, printing, to molding and packaging, determination is required to implement that primary goal of "environmental protection." There are many accessories to be packaged within this packaging. Furthermore, due to transportation requirements, the outer box is limited in size. Thus, making good use of space in the outer box is a key focus of this packaging's structural design.

● Environmental protection
● Packaging volume limits

Solution

Make every detail a more environmentally friendly choice from the inside out.

All the raw materials meet FSC™ standards
All paper used in this packaging meets the FSC™ standards. Whether it is white paper with a grey background, kraft paper, or corrugated paper, all come from "well-managed forests."

Glue-free mortise and tenon structure
In this case, the mortise and tenon method is applied, therefore we can reduce usage of glue. Although manual molding is more labor-intensive, this glueless packaging is easier to recycle and avoids possible pollution caused by the use of glue.

Halogen-free environmentally friendly ink and aqueous dispersion coating
In the printing process, halogen-free, environmentally friendly inks that meet RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) standards, and ultra-low VOC(volatile organic compounds) environmentally friendly water-based varnishes are used for post-press processing.

Result

In traditional East Asian style architecture, there is a technique called caisson, which uses dougong, a structural element of interlocking wooden brackets that join pillars and columns to a roof's frame. This nailless construction method is the ultimate demonstration of traditional East Asian architectural craftsmanship. This environmentally friendly paper-structured packaging applies the mortise and tenon techniques without the use of glue and is reminiscent of the wooden craftsmanship of traditional buildings in East Asia, simple yet spectacular.

We believe that there is no easy way to achieve environmental protection and all production aspects must be taken care of; from selecting raw materials, the choice of ink and printing techniques in the printing process, post-press processing, to assembly and forming. In this case, we have also learned about becoming a more responsible and environmentally friendly packaging producer with our customers.
